Metal Band Petroruss: Part Three in Their History
Petroruss stepped out on stage their first Friday show and the metal band found themselves slightly humbled by the hungry audience screaming for them, knowing deep down this wasn’t created by them alone. They began their show with the intro guitar solo to Black Heart. The guitar chords rippled through the audience and bellowed off the ceiling. The lead vocals cut in to the guitar chords in perfect composition. As they continued through their first song, frenzy grew in the audience.
Petroruss continued to play song after song. As they pushed through their first set they discovered that they could soak in the audience’s energy and use it to play. Their guitars began to scream, the song vocals reached a pitch of their own, filled with rawness and speed, moving the audience. Not once while rehearsing had they reached this sound, the sound of their metal band, the sound of Petroruss.
When they stepped off stage that night, it seemed as if the entire band had been in some form of euphoria. No one spoke beyond jumbled words. The next day they tried endlessly to repeat that sound to mimic even a segment of that energy, yet they had found it to be futile. For two weeks they tried and failed.
When they were on stage at Gallagher’s for the second time the entire metal band was sweating with fear, scared that this same audience would be expecting a performance as good as their last, and they would fail right here on stage. Their fears were quickly distinguished, for they began playing and again reached that raw sound as they continued through their set. When they stopped midway for a short break they could hear their name “Petroruss” echoing through the building as the audience screamed for more.
That night when they stepped off the stage for the second time they realized it was metal fans and not just the metal band that made history. Without the hunger of the fans they simply played average—no more and no less. It’s with the screaming audience that they came alive, for that reason they vowed to make music for their fans, the fans that made them who they are.
